On 26 November 2019, DPI held a roundtable meeting in Tirana. Due to the earthquake that occurred on 26 November in Tirana, the meetings were shorter than planned to ensure the safe return of the participants and staff. Despite this, DPI was able to hold productive and fruitful meetings with participants and guests sharing their views and suggestions. During the course of the event, participants discussed the current situation in Turkey and the region and gave their ideas to contribute to a potential future resolution process. The roundtable brought together recurring participants from Turkey, which included academics, actors, journalists, politicians, as well as DPI’s Chair and Council of Expert members. Representatives from the EU Delegation and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present. Participants had the opportunity to discuss the new developments in Turkey, and looking ahead, their possible impact on democratisation and the resumption of the resolution process. This RT: Review of 2019 was part of the project ‘Supporting inclusive dialogue at a challenging time in Turkey’, supported by the EU and the Irish, Dutch and Norwegian governments.
