The Democratic Progress Institute will carry out a Comparative Study Visit to the Philippines over the next week, to explore learnings from the Southern Philippines peace process. The visit will take place in Manila and in Mindanao, and participants will include Members of Parliament from Turkey’s main political parties; as well as policy makers; renowned journalists and media personalities; senior academics and members of Turkey’s Wise Persons Committee. Participants will meet with key actors from the Philippines process to learn from their first hand experiences of conflict resolution. DPI Director Kerim Yildiz said of the visit: ‘this is an important and timely visit which comes at a critical point in the Philippines’ process, in particular in relation to the recent decommissioning of weapons’. The visit will be hosted by the Philippines Government’s Office of the Presidential Advisor to the Peace Process.
