We are delighted to announce that Prof Dr Aşkın Asan has been appointed as the new Ambassador of Turkey to the Republic of Indonesia. Prof Dr Aşkın Asan joined as DPI’s Council of Member in 2018. As CoE, she provided invaluable contributions to many aspects of DPI’s work, including women’s and youth’s engagement in conflict resolution.
Prof Aşkın Asan is a member of the Council of Europe Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO). Previously, Prof Dr. Aşkın Asan was as an executive board member of the Maarif Foundation, a member of Turkey’s Democracy Platform, and a faculty member at Istanbul Ticaret University. Elected as a Member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly from Ankara, Professor Asan served as a Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and was a member of the Turkish Delegation of Parliamentary Union of the Islamic Conference during her time in parliamentary office. She is a former Deputy Minister of Family and Social Policies (2011-2014) and was Rector of Avrasya University in Trabzon between 2014-2017.
